It’s not so much fun being sold too, even less if it is high pressure. A smart marketer will solve problems and make themselves useful.
One way to be useful is to create a name that’s easy to remember and that explains what you offer clients all in one. Anything that is thoughtful or funny helps. A name that is funny or clever is a name that’s remembered and repeated, used and passed along.
One of my favorite stores that does this brilliantly is a vac ‘n’ sew–a store that sells restored vacuum cleaners and sewing machines. I’ve bought many an
art attachment device sewing machine from such places, so I could use the machine hard and not cause a huge dent in my bank book if I ruined it.
This one has a great name: Vacman and Bobbin. It explains what they do, they seem to have a sense of humor, and if you are a hero fan, well, it’s good to know your hard-used machines are being repaired by super heroes.
It’s a brilliant marketing idea, and every time I see the store, I wish I had come up with the name. Here is a detail of the sign:
The Vacman uses bat wings and Bobbin shows a sewing machine bobbin. Visually and verbally, the sign is meaningful. Well done!
