Business Writing That Works (One-Day)
A five-step process that not only results in clear, well-written documents, emails, and reports, but also save about 30 percent of the normal writing time. Covers how-to steps from generating ideas, draft writing, revising, editing and proofing. Includes frequent real-life exercises, tips, commonly misunderstood words and resources. Focus on reader-based (instead of writer-based) writing.
Business Writing That Works (Two Day)
The same five-step process as the one-day class, but with the addition of grammar and punctuation. Grammar topics include: sentence structure, subject/verb agreement, misplaced modifiers (adjectives and adverbs), active and passive voice, weeding out jargon, punctuation. Exercises for real-world practice.
Understanding and Using Updated Grammar (One Day)
The English language is flexible and pliable, but grammar does change over time. This class defines the eight parts of speech, how to use them correctly and with the latest updates. Includes fixing misplaced modifiers, the using active and passive voices to their best advantage, re-writing sentence fragments and run-on sentences, handling possessives, and punctuation. There is a separate section for updating punctuation and a discussion of style issues and grammar issues. The workbooks become a resource for continued work.
Persuasive Writing Without Nagging, Boring or Offending Your Reader (One Day)
Persuasive writing is an important skill for any writer who wants to get buy-in and be favorably heard when making a case using written communication. Class includes defining the audience and the objective, focusing on content and using the persuasive sequence steps to shape a compelling document. Not a marketing writing course, but a content-driven process to bring readers to agreement and action.
Technical Writing (One Day)
Engineers, scientists, analysts, researchers, and developers write long documents to teach and inform. The writing skills needed for critical thinking and long content are different from the ones for writers who are reducing writing to essential basics.
Specialized writing for technical writers includes developing an overall approach, writing an abstract, developing the right tone using reader-based information design, using charts, graphs, and tables that make sense to readers. Exercises and tips for writers new to technical writing are also included.
What if you don’t need a full-day class? Let’s talk. I teach short classes (1-1/2 hours) several times a day, over more than one day. For example, if you need a full day of training, but have a large class (more than 30 people), I can teach a 1-1/2 hour class three times in a single day for four days. That would allow for 90 people to take a full day class in four sessions. Pricing will be worked out, depending on location. Full-day teaching prices are below.
